In fact, the Captain Morgan Rum Company traces its history back to 1945 when Seagram’s CEO, Samuel Bronfman, negotiated the purchase of the Long Pond Distillery from the Jamaican Government and formed the Captain Morgan Rum Company. While the locals of Caribbean islands such as Jamaica squeezed the sweet sugar cane juices to produce, ferment, disture, and aging to a dark rum, they kept their fluid in Cuba and Puerto Rico during a very short aging period after distillation. The brothers, who ran a local pharmacy, had been purchasing raw rum from the distillery and adding their own medicinal herbs and spices before distributing it as their own product. It ranks right up there, though its lack of complexity and deeper rum notes render it unsuitable for more discerning (and choosier) palates.

I think you were a tad harsh based on the vanilla taste, I give this an 83, its very smooth and for me, the vanilla taste is awesome.
