Description

During World War II, as a successful exporter, the business remained in production. After the war, the company resumed its normal production of fine china, introducing new designs that were more modern and vibrant, such as the Old Country Roses pattern which was launched in 1962 and became the company's most successful design.

What's the key to an afternoon tea to remember? We think it must be a quintessentially English table spread, worthy of impressing any guest. To bring this vision to life, look to our Royal Albert selection of fine bone china tableware. Uncover patterns inspired by the glorious flora and fauna of Britain's wildlife – from enchanting woodlands to manicured country gardens. In 1972, Royal Albert was merged in to the Royal Doulton group, which continued to produce Royal Albert china patterns. Production of Royal Albert China was moved to Indonesia in 2002. In 2005, the company was acquired by the Waterford Wedgwood group, but in 2009, following the collapse of the group, Royal Albert was acquired by WWRD Holdings Ltd., which is now part of the Fiskars Corporation. It can often be easier to assess the date of your piece by identifying the pattern. We’ve listed below the names of various Royal Albert tableware and chinaware patterns and the year in which they were first produced. The association with name of Prince Albert ultimately led to the future success of the company. Thomas Wild and Co produced a range of Commemorative pieces for Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee, and she presented them with a Royal Warrant.

You might find the differing patterns have various ‘series’ of designs, with slight variations. Be sure to look at the bottom of your piece to find the pattern name, such as the ‘Blossom Time’ example below. From 1920, the infamous Royal Albert floral style developed, taking inspiration from the English cottage garden with a hint of Art Deco style. The main Royal Albert crown symbol hasn’t changed much over the years. It was introduced around 1905. However, it appeared in many different colours with slight variations. The Royal Albert brand only came into being in 1904, even though the pottery works where it was produced, the Albert Works, (named after Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s Consort and husband), had been in production since 1846.
