Description

For me, the highlight of the set has been a long-time coming. LEGO Jurassic Park/World fans have for years been clamouring for the iconic Jurassic Park Ford Explorers, and we FINALLY get them in minifigure-scale, and they do not disappoint in the slightest! Dr Alan Grant has a similar design to his past versions but has a rain-soaked shirt and muddy trousers. He can also swap out his famous hat for a hairpiece. Dr Ian Malcolm hasn’t got as dirty as the others but has a little bit of dampness on this slightly opened shirt. Unfortunately, the cowardly lawyer Gennaro hasn’t been included. This is the perfect set to have finally featured this fan-favourite character. The curvature and silhouette also matches it, and in many ways, it’s a very impressive re-creation of an already established design archetype. Ian Malcolm is a fan favourite, and is attired in his signature leather blazer, and also exposing parts of his chest. The printing colour is a little off, and doesn’t quite match the colour of his head, unfortunately, but other than that small flaw, it’s a great depiction of Ian Malcolm. Tim also comes with night vision goggles, with comes in yellow for the first time, after making its debut in Series 16’s Spy.

Our light kit features 18 individual LEDs. Including a pair of our Rotating Bit Lights and a pair of Flashing White Bit Lights, all action components to sound the alarm and take your LEGO display to the next cinematic level. All the various elements combine together to create a unique set, which is far more displayable than a playset. Although it feels more of the latter than the similar Star Wars Dioramas do. The different elements do come together nicely but I would have preferred it if they were a little more securely held in place. The way parts of the build spill over the edges, give the scene more of a visual impact but does increase the diorama’s footprint and therefore the area in which it can be displayed. Despite the slight niggles as a massive fan of the original Jurassic Park films, being able to build a slice of my childhood was delightful and the set has whet my appetite for more Jurassic Park scene dioramas. Are we being too harsh in criticising the design of the T. rex in 76956 T. rex Breakout? Overall, this is still a great LEGO set, capturing so much of the most famous moment from Jurassic Park –the set-up of the scene, the two Ford Explorers, the rain-soaked, terrified minifigures and all the little details in-between all give life and authenticity to the LEGO set and the moment from the film it is based on. Special thanks to the LEGO Group for providing this set for review 76956 Jurassic Park T. Rex Breakout – Set Details

So, for the shortcomings of the T. rex, it is unusual to write that we’d have preferred to pay a higher price for some aesthetic improvements to the dinosaur, to turn what is a really good LEGO Jurassic Park set into a perfect one. — Pictures — It has right details, such as the number 4 on it, and with the right spare parts, you should be able to turn this into a proper Ford Explorer if you’d like.Another great bit of detail that anchors this set to the film are these large modules (complete with reference stills) featuring iconic quotes and references captured as you build the set. Basing 76956 T. rex Breakout on one of the most iconic moments of not only the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World franchise but also of modern cinema is a daunting challenge for the LEGO Group to take on.

The LEGO designers have gone above and beyond on so many levels, such as finally giving us minifigure-scale Ford Explorers, amazingly detailed minifigure versions of Ian Malcolm, Alan Grant, and the kids which fit into the context of the scene, and thrown in so many accurate references to the movies.

The T. rex doesn’t completely shatter the illusion either, and from certain points of view can work with the rest of the elements of the model to make 76956 T. rex Breakout a success –particularly at this relatively low price. The T. rex’s shortcomings aren’t enough to put anyone off buying this set and they won’t be enough to detract from what is a fun and exciting LEGO set to put together and one that feels like it has been a long time coming. Alan, meanwhile, strikes a pose with his signal flare in front of Explorer 5. Ian can be seen looking on in a pretty good rendition of abject terror. This is an absolute winner for me, and with Jurassic World Dominion hitting theatres soon, I for one am looking forward to the Jurassic Park/World resurgence! That the crushed one sits nicely at a slight angle and comes with one tyre missing (after the T. rex bit into it and burst it) just highlights the extra attention to detail that has gone into the set’s design, as do other builds like the flashlight, cups of water and night vision goggles. It is the inclusion of many aspects like these that elevate any LEGO set, but particularly those that encourage you to look first, touch second. I’m extremely biased here, because I love dinosaurs, Jurassic Park, and have bought nearly every LEGO set with a dinosaur in it, so this to me, is a perfect set.

Tour Vehicle 5 is braced by the edge of the display area and these medium nougat 1×2 cheese wedges in front. There is authenticity and charm in the design of each of these minifigures, and they work both for younger fans wanting to play out the scene and for older fans wanting to give their display a real added sense of story and character. On the bottom of the box, there’s a small blurb noting that this is a “Ford Official Licensed Product”, along with the Universal and studio logos.
