Description

You'll find that isolated escapes don't get much better than retreating to a secluded log cabin in the UK and some of the best ones around come with private hot tubs, outstanding views and luxury comforts. Wonderful any time of year, log cabins getaways are ideal in the warmer months when you can make the most of the lush surroundings and scents, while the colder seasons mean inviting wood burners for a cosy atmosphere. Unfortunately, we do not offer installation currently. All our garden buildings have been designed on the basis that any competent DIY customer will have no problem installing a product themselves in a short amount of time. Next, move onto adding the actual superfelt to the roof. You want to start off by rolling it out onto the ground and cutting into long strips which are to be horizontally placed across the roof. If two separate felt pieces are required to connect, we suggest overlapping by 200mm. Allow the felt to overhang off the roof by approximately 30mm, and start nailing down at around 200mm centers with clout nails.

Nestled in woodlands, fields and by lakes, log cabin breaks are just the answer to getting away from it all for a few days with your nearest and dearest. If the garden building exceeds over 2.5m tall - the majority of Dunster House buildings do not exceed this. Whether you opt to build your product yourself, don’t be afraid to tighten the odd bolt here and there. Your product is a life improving investment, so it’s only right to give it some love and care from time to time. Make sure that it’s properly treated before the rainy months, and you make adjustments to doors and window frames, when needed. Our floors come as standard, but that doesn’t mean we compromise on quality. You may by now have noticed that not all log cabin companies are the same. Beware log cabins with untreated floor bearers, which offer no protection against floor level damp penetration. We could make excuses that you may wish to use the patio as a base, as in some European countries, but we are in the UK and our customers expect to get the floor included, after all its an integral part of the building. This doesn’t mean either that we use low-grade timber bearers, because as the saying goes, out of sight out of mind! If you intend on putting an outbuilding in front of the main elevation of your property (as it was originally built or as it was on 1st July 1948) will require Planning Permission. We design all our products with self-assembly in mind, we realise that this can still be quite an intimidatingtask. We, therefore, provide easy to follow step-by-step instructions. Our YouTube Channelalso has some really handy installation videos and our helpful Customer Service team are on hand for any queries you may have along the way. Imagine the sense of satisfaction you’d feel by looking out into your garden, from your beautiful log cabin, knowing that you did it all by yourself!

Situated in the village of Highley, Shropshire. This adorable log cabin is 10 to 15 minutes walk from the River Severn. With this in mind, it makes an ideal place for keen fishermen, especially those fishing for Barbel. There are many private pegs and BAA pegs available close by.Don’t worry, we’ve got this one covered. We’re experts when it comes to all things timber, so we have designed our products from the ground up with its natural properties in mind. Ventilation and circulation of fresh air is also important for the wellbeing of you and your garden building and helps to maintain a relaxed and comfortable environment inside. Flyscreens for windows give effective protection so you don’t have the annoyance of flies and other creepy crawlies. All our sealed units conform to BS EN 1279 standards. This standard covers the requirements for insulating glass units, including thermal and sound insulation. The sealed units are tested to show that they will not suffer from any form of condensation within the unit. Unfortunately, we do not offer installation currently. All our garden buildings

The cabin is also appealing to train spotters/ rail enthusiasts. Highley train station is very close by, as is the local train museum. Some of the rarest steam trains can be seen passing through Highley. Indeed the trains attract tourists from all over, a great place to bring the children to experience ways of travel in time gone by. Please note: water repellent treatment is not the same as pressure treatment, which protects against rot and insect infestation, and which we guarantee for 10 Years!) Offering a quarter mile fishing beat with pegs right in front of the properties with steps down to the river. After building your timber product, this natural construction will begin to ‘settle’. This means that you will likely see some natural timber imperfections appear. These types of natural imperfections can include: We also have a large range of other garden products, such as gazebos, pergolas, garden sheds, garden offices, summerhouses and more! Our 28mm log cabins come with single glazing as standard, which consists of a single pane of 4mm toughened glass, able to repel stray footballs. Whereas our 45mm log cabins come with 24mm double glazing included at no extra cost. Our 24mm double glazed sealed unit comprises of two, 4mm single glazed panes of toughened glass on either side of an aluminium spacer bar, designed to absorb any excess moisture within the sealed unit. When the felt has reached the ridge, fold over a length of felt to cover both sides of the upper layers by 200mm or more, seal the joints and nail together. Nail the felt on each side of the ridge.

You do not have to be an expert at DIY to build a Dunster House garden building, as we do provide you with comprehensive pictorial instructions. Also, if you prefer video tutorials, we do have a selection of videos on YouTube which will support you in building your product. Our garden buildings really are built to last therefore we use only the highest quality, slow-grown spruce. Spruce is much more resilient to warps and splits compared to its cheaper alternative pine. Being a whitewood, it doesn’t discolour anywhere near as much as pine so it is also much more aesthetically pleasing for a log cabin. Considered more stable, less knotty and resinous than pine, spruce will also produce a lot less sap. It is also less dense meaning it is not as susceptible to mould and rot. With a Dunster House log cabin, it is best to lay a plastic waterproof membrane (not supplied) over the roof, which is then to be secured down with a staple gun in intervals of around 20mm. Cut the excess membrane leaving a 5mm - 10mm overhang. Unlike most log cabin companies that fit their products with either plastic glazing such as styrene, acrylic and Perspex or shed-spec glass alternatives such as 3mm horticultural glass we don’t. We break the mould by only using 4mm toughened glass, as we feel this is the most durable and secure in comparison to the rest – trust us, we’ve tested it.On pressure-treated timbers, you may notice some subtle striation marks. These marks sometimes appear during the drying process of timbers. Fear not! In time, the marks will begin to fade as the sun starts to lighten the wood. I did snap the end off one log above notch, working near top of cabin rear. This could of easily been glued but thankfully you get a spare supplied so an easy swap. Add a flyscreen to the windows of your garden building, so you can benefit from letting the fresh air in while keeping those pesky insects out, without restricting visibility. An insect screen will allow you to still view out of the window to survey your surroundings, watch nature and look out at the beauty of your garden. In line with this, we preference products certified to the standards of FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) and PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification). We totally understand that DIY is not for everyone and it can be very overwhelming to start building your own garden product. Therefore, you may want to consider getting in touch with a local carpenter or handyman to install it for you.
