So in many ways, these kids did not stand a chance against the brutality they endured at the hands of their parents. In conclusion, Inside 25 Cromwell Street is a book that will stay with you long after you finish reading it.
One heartbreaking comment from Stephen (among many) seems to sum up the tragedy of these kids - when normal kids were being tucked up in bed by their parents, they were being "tied" to their beds. Not to say that any of that excuses his behavior, it is just an intriguing look into Fred's psyche and childhood which I have not read before. feel sorry 4 the children and also the poor victims and families+ who knows how many futher victims are buried- SHOCKING!
Perhaps I’m being overly cynical here, but it’s an easy assumption to make, and possibly holds a certain amount of truth to it.The authors describe in harrowing detail how Fred and Rose lured young women to their home, subjected them to unimaginable torture and abuse, and then killed them. In parts it's quite hard to keep up with what's going on as the statements keep jumping from one thing to another.
e. Stephen and Mae West’s words) were obtained, the book’s structure, and ultimately identifies the book as part of Stephen and Mae’s ‘rehabilitation process’.Stephen and Mae West take on a big challenge, writing about their family life from when they were small, all the way through to the trials of both Fred and Rosemary.
The book also includes eight pages of full colour photographs showing the West family at various times during their lives as well as snippets from inside 25 Cromwell St.It is shocking and at times upsetting but probably the saddest thing of all is in reading how the two West children appear to be trying to make sense of the nonsensical and inexplicable. It is told verbatim from interviews with Stephen and Mae West, children of the serial killer parents. I can't even begin to imagine what life was like for Stephen and Mae but glad to read they are starting to rebuild their lives and I hope the victims families are too! The book in principally divided into three definite sections, which (quite purposefully) reflect the three most important phases of Stephen and Mae’s lives. However having read books which were obviously published after I had some knowledge of the goings on already, what was nice to hear was Stephens view point in his own words.
