As seen earlier in the review, it is easy to illustrate the strongest blur a lens can create, and wide-angle lenses are inherently disadvantaged in this regard. Great and fair view. Accodring to the test shots also an accurate one. Sigma is a fantastic manufacturer of very fine optics. its F 2.8 DN Art series were perfect for M43 world. Compact, High Quality and Affordable. The rear portion of the hood is rubberized to, along with the mold-ribbed ring, facilitate installation and removal. If you look through a tube at an angle, similar to the light reaching the frame's corner, the shape is not round.

However, when we reviewed the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN | C, we were blown away by the quality inside and out. Build quality is very good indeed, with a sturdy metal mounting plate and smooth-action focus ring, electronically coupled to a fast and near-silent stepping motor autofocus system. The complex optical path includes three top-grade FLD (‘Fluorite’ Low Dispersion), two SLD (Special Low Dispersion) and two glass moulded aspherical elements, all of which work together to deliver sumptuous image quality.

Carrying on from the more mass-market standard and telephoto EF-M zoom lenses, this is the obvious choice for anybody wanting an ultra-wide viewing angle. Wide-angle zooms can be notoriously big and heavy, but this one has the same kind of retractable design as the EF-M 15-45mm lens, shoehorning seriously wide viewing into physical dimensions of just 61x58mm. The long-zoom aperture of f/5.6 is slightly wider than in the standard and telephoto zooms, and this lens also goes one better in terms of build quality, with a metal rather than plastic mounting plate.

The spherical aberration color halo shows little size change as the lens is defocused, and stopping down one to two stops generally removes this aberration. The mount features a special sealing to make the lens an excellent choice in a wide variety of conditions. Extension tubes are hollow lens barrels that shift a lens farther from the camera, allowing shorter focusing distances at the expense of long-distance focusing. Well, most of the time anyway... The Samyang 7.5mm f3.5 fisheye, Laowa 7.5mm f2 UWA, and the range of f1.2 Voigtlander primes are all native M4/3 designs made specifically for the system and they all seem to have found their niche and sold well (and they run the gamut from ultra compact to not so much, tho you can argue they're all still pretty niche - in large part cause of MF). Normal is for the scene to change size in the frame (sometimes significantly) as the focus is pulled from one extent to the other. In terms of handling, I felt the 16mm worked best when mounted on the larger Micro Four Thirds camera that feature prominent hand grips: its comparatively long length feeling a little unbalanced on the smaller, rangefinder-style boxes, though it's light enough that it doesn't end up feeling too front-heavy. The lens's only control point is a large by-wire focusing ring. It's a little under-damped for my tastes, rotating fairly freely but it was effective on the few occasions I ended up having to manual focus (turns out LED Christmas lights and autofocus do not always play nicely with one-another). So overall, the Sigma 16mm f1.4 is really just a fantastic option, and I’m so glad it is available for L mount now. If you’re in the market for a brilliant wide angle lens, I highly recommend you taking a closer look at it. I agree with everything the reviewer says and would much prefer to carry a light 17mm f1.8 Olympus. Also, I would need a camera grip to try and balance this heavy lens. The SIGMA 16mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary features SIGMA’s inner focus technologies, while lighter lens elements in the focus lens group make possible a more compact actuator. Moreover, this lens offers outstanding stability whether the photographer is shooting handheld or has the camera placed on a surface. Structurally, the lens features materials and parts that contribute to its compact, lightweight structure. In summary, this is an unprecedented lens that combines outstanding optical performance with exceptional portability and usability.

The focal length is always a primary consideration when selecting the ideal lens for a particular use. Sigma 16mm f1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens Autofocus:G1Houston, it isn't reasonable to design lenses for each mirrorless mount separately. Same for DLSR lenses: Same design for Canon and Nikon versions, they just change flange distance and mount. There’s a lot to be said for ‘ superzoom’ lenses' for travel and walkabout photography. The main advantage is that the epic zoom range, stretching all the way from wide-angle to telephoto focal lengths, enables you to react to pretty much any shooting scenario with just a twist of the zoom ring, rather than having to carry multiple lenses and swap between them. I’m also happy to say that the autofocus was very accurate. I rarely experienced missed shots, and this is important, especially when you consider the 16mm is an f1.4 lens, so sometimes, the depth of field can be pretty shallow, especially when you’re shooting closer.
